Basements can be cavernous and dark, the idea here was to let light in, and as much as possible. Built in place reinforced concrete retaining walls allowed flexibility to design any size that felt appropriate. Over sized window wells let more light in and a board formed finish gives the concrete some character. The bedrooms have large 5′ x 4′ windows and the downstairs living room has a 10′ x 5′ window with a 6′ deep window well creating a sunken garden area at it’s base.
