Custom Decks and Outdoor Areas

About This Project

Every Colorado house has at least one extra room not mentioned in the MLS listing or public property records, and it’s called ‘outside’.  Sometimes our state has to comply with the climate and make outdoors unbearably cold or hot, but mostly the climate in our wonderful state lends itself to a comfortable and enjoyable place to be.  Decks, outdoor rooms, or a simple destination space to unwind at is a true Colorado experience.  Decks and spaces these days go from simple to extravagant, from a place to sun bathe to an outdoor kitchen and living room complete with appliances, fireplace, furniture, and a TV.

Featured in a few older photos is a redwood deck with an outdoor cooking / dining area.  It includes some custom stream bent wood benches and rails.  The back of the bench is a laminated compound radius slat, something you might find on a old wooden boat built a few centuries ago.  Although we don’t build much with lumber these days, it shows that even back then outdoor spaces don’t have to be confined to a simple platform.
